Colombia has a longstanding history of emerald mining and is the primary producer of emeralds for the entire world. In recent years, new discoveries of quartz have placed it on par with some of the finest quartz localities known to man. Quartz, the second most common mineral in the Earth’s crust, possesses a very rare property called piezoelectricity. This means that when quartz is compressed, it produces an electrical current and conversely will begin to expand/contract (vibrate) when electricity is applied to it. This incredible phenomenon is why quartz crystals are used in wristwatches. When the watch battery sends electricity to the quartz the crystal begins to vibrate at an extremely consistent frequency of 32,798 hertz. Then a circuit in the watch counts the oscillations and uses them to time each second!

You will receive the exact specimen in the photographs above.
